Free cross stitch pattern tools for counted needlework, built to run entirely on your own device. No account, no upload, no paywall on the export button.
Why it works this way
Most pattern makers ask you to register before you can download the thing you just made, and put the useful export formats behind a subscription. We think a chart you designed is yours the moment it exists, so everything here — the maker, the editor, the symbol chart, the floss list, the PDF — is free and needs no account.
The practical consequence is that your pictures stay yours. The converter runs in your browser: your image is read on your own device, charted there, and never sent anywhere. There is no server to send it to.
An honest word about colour
DMC does not publish official RGB values for its floss, so every on-screen colour table — ours included — is somebody's estimate rather than a manufacturer figure. Our table of 456 shades is built from three public datasets by taking the median of each colour channel, on the reasoning that a middle value is less likely to be badly wrong than any single estimate. We have not measured real thread against it, and we cannot tell you how far off any individual shade is. Treat it as a guide to shape and contrast, not to colour.
What this means in practice: trust the chart for shape, structure and stitch counts, and check a real floss card before buying thread. We would rather say this plainly than imply a precision that does not exist.
Who runs this
Chart Stitch is operated by INNOMATRIX LIMITED, a private limited company registered in England and Wales, company number 16188012, registered office 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom.
There is no team page to pad this out with. The tools are built and maintained as a small operation, the site takes no accounts and stores nothing on a server, and everything on it is free. If you want to reach a person, hello@chartstitch.com goes to one.
About the DMC name
DMC is a trademark of its owner. Chart Stitch is an independent project with no connection to that company: not affiliated with it, not endorsed by it, not sponsored by it, and not a source of official DMC information. We use DMC shade numbers because that is how stitchers and shops actually refer to thread, and a floss list cannot be written without them.
The shade numbers and shade names are the manufacturer's own reference system, reproduced here only so you can identify thread. The colour values printed beside them are not the manufacturer's figures — they are the approximations described above.
What the tools do and do not do
They produce cross stitches on a square grid, with symbols and a floss list, and they let you edit every stitch. Half and quarter stitches and backstitch outlines are there too. They do not do blended threads; they do not convert a photograph into something usable without you tidying it; and they do not estimate how many skeins to buy, because there is no honest way to do that without knowing your tension and stitching habits.
Sizes quoted anywhere on this site come from one division — stitches divided by fabric count — and are exact arithmetic rather than estimates.
